Edward Laurence Albert in "Butterflies Are Free" (1972)

At the age of 21, Edward Laurence Albert (Mr. Collins, Time Force) appeared in his second and most notable film, "Butterflies Are Free." The Academy Award-winning romantic comedy stars Albert as Don Baker, a young blind man living in the big city which puts him at odds with his overprotective mother. There he meets and falls in love with his new neighbor Jill Tanner (played by Goldie Hawn), a fun-loving young actress without a care in the world. The two form an instant connection but when Don's mother discovers this, she tries hard to break the two apart, knowing that Jill will eventually leave Don and crush him. Jill tries to leave by claiming to love her new director, but not before she convinces his mother that Don needs his freedom and confidence to survive on his own. After the break-up, Don wants to come home, but his mother refuses. Jill returns and the two find their happiness. The film was based on the stage play by Leonard Gershe. Edward Laurence Albert won a Golden Globe award for his role in the film. Albert appears on-screen for the majority of the film as there are only 5 characters in the story.

"Butterflies Are Free" is available on DVD
