The fifth season of "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" started with a pivotal episode in the history of the series. It featured the death of Hercules' best friend Iolaus, played by Michael Hurst (voice of Vexacus, Ninja Storm). In the episode, Hercules & Iolaus travel to Sumeria to help King Gilgamesh who is being persecuted by the gods. Along the way Iolaus finds love with his old pal Nebula, who turns out to be the Sumerian princess. While there, Hercules is tricked by Gilgamesh into helping him gain a chalice which gives him the power to become a full god. He plans to sacrifice Nebula in the process. In the epic final battle Hercules fights Gilgamesh as Iolaus helps Nebula. But when Gilgamesh goes for a final attack on her, Iolaus sacrifices himself to save her. The episode ends with Iolaus' death. James Gaylyn (Colonel Truman, RPM) also appears briefly in this episode as a Sumerian villager. His character is unnamed but has a few lines early in the episode.
